Kinja'd!!!

I ask becuase reviews really compliment it's ride and inside it's pretty much Chrysler parts even with it's 3.7 newer v6 [EDIT: nope..older v6 sorry] in a somewhat compact-ish Dakota sized truck. Reviews I find have very good ratings and also high reliability. Sales numbers are ZERO lately. I wonder how that will impact the resale value and I really wonder.....is this truck a good consideration? Anyone here have experience with it?

It's a Dakota with a differnet grill

No idea, it's basically a Dakota, right? I thought it was just a badge and trim job. (But my memory may not be what it used to be).

I have no personal experience with them however I have heard that the V8 is terrible. Go for the V6 if you chose one.

If you want an idea of resale take a look at the Isuzu i-series pickups. Hint: it's not good.

Well, it stands to reason that sales would be zero lately, since it was discontinued in 2009.

Right....so if anyone wants something that might be reliable but cheaper and newer....this could be on the radar.

even then there's still some on lots....it's like they can't get rid of them.

Yup, as long as you intend to drive it till it dies.

Or the Hummer H3T (same truck).

If it's a unicorn truck you're looking for, check out the Suzuki Equator.

Nope, it's a rebadged Dakota, not a H3.

Yes, and so is the Isuzu i-Series .

"Need" is relative, friendo. Some would argue that everyone "needs" a truck. Some would argue that a truck, by its very truckitude (from the French truckalité) , is "needed."

Yes, I know that. I was responding to the comment about the Isuzu i-Series.

Mitsubishi Raider = Dodge Dakota
Isuzu i-Series = Chevrolet Colorado

H3t and Isuzu i-series and canyon/colorado are the same platform. This and the Dakota are the same platform. They're parallel.

I took this to mean "one who equates" and not "the line of 0 degrees latitude around the Earth."

Either way this name makes no fucking sense.

Well, a ton of car names make no sense. Why does Hyundai name its SUVs after cities in Arizona and New Mexico?

I've owned two Dakotas from that generation. A 2005 and a 2008. The 05 was a v6 auto 4x4, and the 08 was a v8 auto 4x4.

The 08 had more than enough power and a great exhaust note. Aside from a water pump issue I had with it, it was wonderful. The only reason I traded it in was because the dealership could not get authorization to find/fix the root cause of the water pump issue, so I doomed to be getting a new one every 8k miles until the warranty ran out.

The 05 was my least favorite vehicle. Ever. No power, poor mileage, and the trans sucked. 3rd gear detonated around 12k miles, but was fine after a rebuild (dealer determined it was a manufacturing defect, judging from how the internals came apart). I didn't have any other mechanical troubles with it, so I guess it was mostly reliable. My biggest complaint was the v6. It was so slow, I could floor it from a red light, not spin the tires, and still have old women in Buicks beat me to the other side without trying.

I have no idea if the Raider offered the 4.7 v8, but I would suggest finding one, especially an 08 or newer (revised intake, heads, and cams).

What sort of highway mileage did you get with that V8?

It's just a slightly retuned Dakota. That gen of Dakotas were decent, the 4.7 powered ones can be fun. I would imagine Raiders are cheaper now than Dakotas, but perhaps parts(light housings and such) are more expensive. Either way, it's essentially a Dakota so it's a decent vehicle.

There's reportedly a Hyundai Area 51 but officials deny it.

I don't remember exactly (been almost 4 years). I think it was somewhere around 17-19, depending on how I drove. It improved a bit once I added a tuner, then lifting it cancelled that out.

One thing worth mentioning is if you find an 08 or newer v8 model, they are extremely detuned from the factory. Chrysler didn't want the little v8 competing with the hemi in the Ram, so they knocked it down. A tuner really wakes it up.

Looks like they dropped the v8 once the new version hit. The older 4.7 is decent, but no where near as good as the newer 4.7 they introduced in 2008. If you can find an HO version of the old 4.7, it got hotter cams from the factory, and falls somewhere between the old 4.7 and new 4.7 in terms of power.
